After Zenfolio offered me a free listing on their excellent "Photographer Central" service, I was really fortunate to be contacted by a couple of local corporations to come in and shoot headshots for them. They found me not through my regular site, but rather through the Photographer Central service, which is great! The biggest one was Cintas Corporation, which is, as many of you know, a provider of uniforms, cleaning, logistics, delivery, and many other services throughout the world! Back in November I came in and photographed almost seventy people in one day (all with my 6D and 70-200 f/2.8 lens, one giant monolight with a 6' octabox, fill flash, and grey vinyl backdrop) and after lots of scheduling work, I was able to shoot the rest of the employees (about a dozen people) a couple of weeks ago. This time it was a beautiful spring day, and I set up the same grey backdrop in front of a large window, which acted as both a key light and a diffuser. I also set up a small speedlite behind the subjects, and because I had to be pretty close to the window, used my Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 lens on my 5D III. I also had the subjects use a small silver or white reflector disk to fill shadows on their faces. It all took about an hour, everyone was extremely friendly and had great energy and wonderful smiles. The light from the window was gorgeous, it made me wish I could always have a big, sunlit window to shoot in front of! I've been working on retouching the photos, and three of them are below- check out how sharp and contrasty that lens makes everything! I'm also very pleased with the evenness of the big window-light, as well as the catch lights in peoples' eyes. I still have a ways to go on the rest of the retouching, but overall I think the shoot was a great success! Thanks again to all the friendly people at Cintas!
